The Journey Begins

20th February 2010

Well the big adventure got off to a late start. My alarm failed to go off at 3:15 am but luckily I woke at 3:30. It was a mad dash to jump into some clothes and throw the last of the luggage into the car. I picked up Peter from Diannella and swung across to Warwick to met up with Kieth and Cec. We were on our way just after 4:30 heading Meckering to met up with “The Legend”. Keith, Cec and John “The Legend” were all speedway riders in their day so I feel there maybe a few stories told over a lemonade or two.

Keith and Cec are in Keith’s car towing an enclosed trailer with Kieth’s BMW and sidecar. “The Legend” has a Ute with a canopy and is travelling with us to Adelaide before returning to WA. I am driving a friend’s Nissan Pathfinder towing my Honda on an open “Folding” trailer with Peter for company.

After leaving Meckering we traveled in convey with Keith in the lead, myself next followed by “The Legend”. About 50 Km from Merriden two pink and gray galahs swooped in front of our car. One flew off but I couldn’t see what happen to the other one. When we stopped for fuel in Merriden I heard a sound coming from the front of the car. It was to galah, it had lodged in the front grill but it appeared to be OK. After a bit of prodding with the handle of a window washer and a nip to Peter’s thumb it fell from the grill and promptly flew off without any ill effects except he was miles from home.

The rest of the day was uneventful and we made Cocklebiddy some time before dark. I say some time as there is a time zone 45 minutes later than Perth that is used in that part of WA and time gets very confusing.

21st February 2010

We left Cockebiddy just after day break and made it to Eucla for breakfast. We continued driving across the Nullabor and onto the top of the Eyre Peninsula to Wudinna just before dark.

Ready for the road.

So far we have traveled 2200 Km since leaving home. This is the first place we have been able to get onto the wireless internet and as yet unable to connect on the mobiles on the Optus or 3 network.

Tomorrow will be a short day with only 600 Km to Adelaide where we will spend a couple of days.

Cheers
Steve
